2022 Toyota Avalon Drops AWD And TRD, Starts From $36,375 For Its Final Year

The fifth-generation Avalon might have been introduced in 2018, but Toyota has confirmed that 2022 will mark the end of its production. Today, the automaker announced pricing for the 2022 MY alongside a few changes in the lineup.

The 2022 Toyota Avalon starts from $36,375 (excluding the $1,025 fee), making it $250 more expensive than last year’s model.

The full-size sedan is not available in AWD variants anymore, while the sporty TRD trim was also dropped from the range. The good news for prospective buyers is the addition of new safety features as standard, including the upgraded Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ package (dynamic radar cruise control, lane tracing assist, blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, etc), and the addition of a rear-seat reminder system.

After Sitting In Its UAE Dealership For 6 Years, Bentley Is Offering These Hand-Built Mulliner Limos To The World

In 2015, British luxury carmaker Bentley shipped out five examples of its ultra-exclusive and unique Mulsanne Grand Limousine by Mulliner to the United Arab Emirates. But it seems that nobody claimed ownership. Now, Bentley has given their customers one last chance to own what they consider to be significant pieces of automotive history, as five hand-built models go on sale yet again, this time with delivery available anywhere in the world.

The original Mulsanne Grand Limousine was initially built as a private commission. Presumably, the marketing execs thought there was a business case for the modifications made, so Mulliner was given the green light to create five more examples. The five cars were then shipped out to the UAE, where they’ve sat for the past six years. Perhaps Bentley thought that sales would be a dead cert in the oil-rich nation, but as these super-luxury cars were never used, nor registered, presumably, the plan backfired.

But what is the UAE’s loss is the world’s gain. Now Bentley has opened up sales to anyone, anywhere in the world. Maybe this time, they’ll catch the fancy of a few billionaires who like the sound of an old-school coach-built version of the Mulsanne that received a 1,000mm (39.4 in.) stretch together with 79mm (3.1 in.) of added headroom.

So what do you get for the undisclosed sum of money a Mulsanne Grand Limousine by Mulliner costs? For starters, the limo is also equipped with a custom climate control system that consists of two zones and allows each of the four rear passengers to manually control their own micro-climates. That’s because this business-class-suite-on-wheels was designed around offering equal comfort to each of the four passengers.

There’s a face-to-face seating arrangement — vital for those multi-million dollar deals on wheels. Of course, you get a bottle cooler with crystal flutes, a beverage cabinet with tailor-made crystal tumblers, the finest veneered folding picnic tables that allow for work while traveling, along with iPad docking and charging stations. All of this can be enjoyed while you’re enveloped in the finest leather and wood to feature inside a vehicle.

There’s an intercom system that allows you to tell Parker which turn they missed, and there lies ‘smart glass’ between the front and rear seats. It enables the entire glass panel to switch from transparent to opaque at a touch of a button — the first time such a feature was fitted to a Bentley.

The cars are a proud example of the master craftsmanship at Bentley’s Mulliner division, and with the production of the Mulsanne coming to an end last year, it’s a safe bet to say these creations will never be repeated. The one-meter longer model is placed on a re-engineered chassis with bespoke suspension to maintain stability. The limo feature’s Bentley’s famous 6¾-litre twin-turbo V8 producing just over 505hp (512 PS) and 1,020 Nm of torque (752 lb. ft).

Read: Bentayga Is The Best Seller As Bentley Posts Record Sales For First Half Of 2021

Each of the five examples on offer is very distinct, not just from any other vehicle on the road but also each other, coming with their own combination of design colors and specifications.

To complement the unique designs, each car sits on a set of 21″-inch wheels that match the car’s exterior paintwork, while even the base iconic Flying ‘B’ has the words ‘Coachbuilt by Mulliner’ engraved on it.

But despite the many changes done to enhance the smaller, Mulsanne it was based on, the Grand Limousine still retains the design and lines of its original counterpart. Bentley says that this makes it the longest manufacturer-built limousine in the world. How much does all this cost? We’ve reached out for a ball-park, but for now, it’s safe to say things are kept strictly POA.

ATS Corsa RR Turbo Serie Carbonio Is An Italian Lightweight Racecar With Up To 592 HP

Italian company ATS, known for the track-only RR Turbo Club Sport and the road-going GT sportscar, presented the RR Turbo Serie Carbonio which is an even lighter version of their racecar thanks to the carbon-fiber body and carbon-ceramic disc brakes.

Like the RR Turbo Club Sport announced in 2019 and officially unveiled in 2020, the Serie Carbonio is built on a tubular frame with an FIA-approved roll cage. The mid-mounted dry-sump turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine produces 414 hp (308.9 kW / 420 PS) in Sport mode and up to 592 hp (441.3 kW / 600 PS) in Corsa mode. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels through a 6-speed sequential gearbox with paddle shifters, with the help of a mechanical limited-slip differential.

Thanks to the new body panels and the aggressive aero components made entirely from carbon fiber, the Serie Carbonio not only looks meaner, but it also weighs 825 kg (1,819 pounds), which is 40 kg (88.2 pounds) lighter than the Club Sport. It also gets a new set of carbon-ceramic brake discs measuring 350 mm (13.8 inches) with six-piston aluminum calipers. Both versions have push-rod suspension at the front and pull-rod at the rear, with electronically adjustable shocks.

The RR Turbo is eligible to participate in 24h Series, VLN, International Endurance Series, International Hill Climb championships E2SH and Clubsport, however, you can also enjoy it on track days. Pricing starts from €136,600 ($161,331) plus taxes for the Club Sport and from €164,900 ($194,755) plus taxes for the Serie Carbonio.

Toyota Unveils The 2022 Land Cruiser, First All-New Model Since 2007, Includes GR Sport Edition

Toyota has unveiled the new 300 series Land Cruiser and says it had two development objectives for the new SUV. The first was to “inherit and evolve” its spirit of “reliability, durability, and off-road performance” while the second was to create a ride experience capable of tackling any type of road.

But before you get too hyped about it, let us tell you that there are no current plans to offer the new 2022 Land Cruiser in the U.S., though we will probably get a similar Lexus LX version.

Evolving: Making Old-School Chassis Technology New

Toyota says that it wanted to keep the vehicle’s body-on-frame structure because it “is the foundation that protects the Land Cruiser’s essence.” In order to pursue its mission of making the SUV capable of tackling any road without tiring the driver, though, it has adopted the new GA-F platform for the vehicle, which is based on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA).

That has meant a lighter chassis that is also more rigid and a vehicle whose center of gravity has been moved closer to the ground and whose overall weight is reduced by 200 kg (441 lbs). Toyota handed the Land Cruiser over to many drivers to test it, including Dakar Rally racers in order to make sure that it could compete on and off the road.

Those tests led to improvements in the basic suspension performance allowing for more wheel articulation, a multi-terrain monitor to give you a better view of the world around you, multi-terrain select which helps optimize the traction for different conditions, and E-KDSS. That last feature is short for “Electronic Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System” and Toyota says it’s a world-first that improves road-holding.

The total length, width, and wheelbase, as well as the departure angle and approach angle are the same as the previous, 200 series model. That model was 4,990 mm (196.5 in) long, 1,980 mm (78.0 in) wide, had a 2,850 mm (112.2 in) wheelbase, and had a 32-degree approach angle and a 24-degree departure angle.

Over The Obstacles, Under The Hood

Powering it all are a pair of twin-turbo V6 engines. The first is a 3.5-liter V6 that runs on gas and produces 305 kW (409 hp, 415 PS) and 650 Nm of torque (479 lb-ft). The second is a 3.3-liter V6 that runs on diesel and makes 227 kW (304 hp, 309 ps) but generates 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque.

Although fuel economy ratings have not yet been shared, Toyota says that it’s looking to reduce CO2 emissions by 10% a year compared to the outgoing model. In that mission, it will get help from the 10-speed automatic that handles shifting duties for both engines, as well as the reduced overall weight.

A ‘Performance Orientated’ GR Sport edition is coming

More power and performance are expected for the GR Sport model, which was teased through a series of pictures and confirmed today, but Toyota has not revealed any details about the model. It has said, though, that it will unveil it later this year, without getting into specifics about which markets will get it.

A Shape Determined By Off-Roading

The new Land Cruiser also features new design that has LED lighting elements that extends from the grille and its chunky slats, a popular design choice that helps this wide vehicle look even wider. New squared-off wheel arches cohere with the squared-off design that has been adopted at the front and on the hood (with those two big bulges). The overall shape is not a massive departure from the outgoing model, but the boxy shape looks fit to purpose.

In fact, much of the design was chosen to help the Land Cruiser drive off-road. Toyota designed the bumpers to stay out of the way during off-road driving. The positioning of the lights was also chosen to try and keep you from cracking lenses on the trail.

Inside, too, the design is made for ease of use. The cabin is centered around a big, central infotainment screen, though buttons still abound, a decision that Toyota says was taken to keep things intuitive and easy to reach in off-roading situations. Big chunky buttons will give users access to the system’s menus, as well as the vehicle’s many driving modes. A switch for 4 High and 4 Low modes is another sign that off-roading has been a primary focus of the design.

A gauge cluster with actual physical dials also feels like a deliberate decision against the instrument screens that are so common today. An information display between the two gauges, though, will mean that at least some digital information can be displayed. With an inductive charger for your phone, heated and ventilated seats for your bum, and a JBL sound system for your ears, luxury has not been foregone even if some of the techier fads have been avoided.

On And Off The Road Safely

Along with all of the off-road technology, there’s also quite a bit of safety technology. The automaker has included its Toyota Safety Sense active safety package, to which two major safety features have been added. The first detects oncoming vehicles as well as pedestrians and cyclists coming on either side at intersections while the second will help steer you away from a crash if it notices you taking evasive action.

Toyota calls the new 300 series 2022 Land Cruiser, “a vehicle that promises to take you anywhere and everywhere and come back alive and safe.” The company says it will launch around the world this starting this summer, though as we mentioned previously, as of now, there are no plans to sell it in the U.S. Pricing for the new vehicle has not been announced.

Europe’s 2021 Toyota Proace City Van Goes Electric With 174-Mile Range

Nearly two years after Toyota first announced its plans to expand its Proace City lineup  with electric versions and just months after releasing the larger Proace Verso EV, the Japanese automaker has unveiled the zero-emission versions of its compact light commercial vehicle (LCV) and people carrier.

As with the Proace Verso, the smaller Proace City model is built by the former PSA Group (now incorporated into the Stellantis group), being based on its compact van series that includes the  Peugeot Partner, Citroën Berlingo, and Opel/Vauxhall Combo.

Set to arrive at European dealers in the fourth quarter of the year, the two Proace City models will launch in different configurations, including a panel van, five- and seven-seat versions with standard and long wheelbase, and a crew cab. The load and towing capacities of the ICE-powered models are matched by the electric versions, with up to 800 kg (1,764 lbs) and 750 kg (1,653 lbs) respectively.

Also Read: 2021 Toyota Proace Verso Joins The Electric Crowd With 330Km/205Mi Range

The 2021 Proace City uses the same electric powertrain as the Proace Verso. It comprises of an electric motor that drives the front wheels and generates 136 PS (134 HP / 100 kW) and 260 Nm (192 lb-ft) of torque, and a 50 kWh battery. The 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration takes between 11.2 and 11.7 seconds, depending on the configuration, and top speed is limited to 135 km/h (84 mph). The targeted range on the WLTP test cycle is between 260 and 280 km (162-174 miles).

Recharging the battery using the standard single-phase on-board charger is basically an over-night operation, as it takes 7.5 hours. With the optional three-phase 11 kW charger, the time to fill up the batteries drops to 5 hours. The battery also supports 100 kW DC fast charging, and it can be charged to 80 percent in 30 minutes.

Much like its bigger sibling, the 2021 Proace City has a switch that allows drivers to choose between Eco, Normal and Power modes. Each of them adjusts output and torque, with the peak achieved in the latter setting only.

The equipment range will mirror the ICE-powered versions. Thus, the Proace City Electric compact van will launch in the Base and Comfort specifications, while the Verso minivan will be offered in the Combi, Shuttle, Family and Family+ versions.

New Ferrari 812 Competizione And Drop-top Competizione A Are Here To Remind Us What A V12 Is All About

Ferrari has finally revealed the name of its special edition 812: meet the new 812 Competizione and its drop-top sibling, the Competizione A.

The headline figure of the new Ferrari 812 Competizione is of course the horsepower, which gets an upgraded version of the naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V12 engine producing 818 HP, instead of the Superfast’s 789 HP, while revving up to a shocking 9,500 rpm. Torque is slightly reduced from 529 lb-ft (717 Nm) to 513 lb-ft (695 Nm).

Read Also: Is This Bold-Looking Ferrari An F12tdf-Based One-Off?

The seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission comes with new software that further reduces shift times by 5 percent, retaining the same ratios with the ‘regular’ 812 Superfast. Ferrari’s new 812 Competizione models claim a 0-62 mph (100 km/h) time in 2.85 seconds, while flat out they’ll do over 211 mph (340 km/h).

To make a 6.5-liter V12 spin its internals at that speed, Ferrari redesigned many of its components, including new titanium con-rods that are 40 percent lighter than those in the Superfast, and a new ‘diamond-like’ carbon coating on the camshafts and the pins inside the pistons for reduced friction and more durability.

The engine revisions also include a lighter and rebalanced crankshaft while the intake now features variable geometry inlet tracts. Add to that a new exhaust system that, despite having a mandatory petrol particulate filter for Europe, makes the Ferrari V12 scream as ferociously as ever.

The new exhaust employs rectangular pipes mounted at either end of the bumper, making room for the full-width rear diffuser, which accounts for 25 percent of the total increase in downforce over the regular model. The giant new diffuser works in “perfect aerodynamic synergy” with the new full-width rear spoiler as well, guaranteeing the maximum downforce possible over the rear axle.

The front spoiler features a passive mobile aero system, which opens at speeds over 155 mph (250 km/h), stalling the diffuser and allowing the 812 Competizione to reach its top speed.

Ferrari was able to improve the cooling flow management on the 812 Competizione without increasing the dimensions and weight of the radiators. The engine air intakes are on either side of the central grille, while the evacuation of hot air was improved thanks to the vents on either side of the bonnet’s new central ‘blade’, and the louvers on the wings.

One of the most eye-catching features of the new Ferrari 812 Competizione is of course the new rear screen, which here is completely closed, freeing up space for some new aerodynamic solutions. These include three pairs of protruding elements that act as vortex generators, in order to distort the flow and redistribute the rear axle’s pressure field. Part of the flow is deflected towards the sides of the rear spoiler, boosting downforce and improving the efficiency of the diffuser. Ferrari says that these vortex generators “guarantee” 10 percent of the total increase in rear downforce, compared to the Superfast.

Other go-faster components include Ferrari’s latest Side Slip Control v. 7.0, an independent rear-wheel steering system with a new electronic management system that allows the right and left actuators to be operated individually, a set of bespoke Michelin Cup 2 R tires wrapped on all-carbon-fiber wheels, and more.

Ferrari says that it was able to reduce the weight of the 812 Competizione by 38 kg (84 lbs) compared to the Superfast, at 1,487 kg (3,278 lbs) dry, thanks to the new materials and components used in the powertrain, running gear, and bodywork.

While the new 812 Competizione and Competizione A models are described by Ferrari as “dedicated to a very exclusive group of collectors and enthusiasts of the most noble of Ferrari traditions”, they didn’t reveal exactly how many of them will be produced. If the past is any indication, we’d say that the drop-top Competizione A will be the rarer one, if you care for that sort of thing.

Alfa Romeo Giulia GTAm Arrives At Imola For Its Big Debut This Weekend

Alfa Romeo is setting up the international dynamic debut event of the new Giulia GTAm, which will take place at Imola on Sunday, April 18, during the second round of the 2021 F1 World Championship.

The new Alfa Romeo Giulia GTAm, which will be presented in the brand’s classic red livery, already visited the pit lane for a photo opportunity alongside Alfa Romeo F1 drivers Kimi Räikkönen and Antonio Giovinazzi.

Both drivers have participated in the development of the Giulia GTAm, helping Alfa Romeo to fine-tune its most aggressive and powerful product in decades. In addition, the Italian carmaker has collaborated with the Sauber Engineering Team for some of the model’s technical features, including the center-locking 20-inch alloy wheels, and various carbon-fiber parts.

The new Alfa Romeo Giulia GTAm is the even more hardcore variant of the Giulia GTA, featuring things like a more aggressive aero kit with a larger front splitter and a giant carbon-fiber rear wing, a rear bench delete, a roll bar, no door panels, and straps instead of regular door handles for that ultimate race-car-for-the-road feeling.

The twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 engine has been upgraded to produce 532 HP (540 PS) instead of the Quadrifoglio’s 503 HP (510 PS) and is accompanied by a model-specific Akrapovic exhaust system for an “unmistakable” soundtrack.  While Alfa  Romeo hasn’t released the full figures yet for the GTAm, it says that the slightly less mad Giulia GTA will hit 62 mph (100 km/h) from a standstill in just 3.6 seconds, thanks to a new Launch Control and a comprehensive diet that removed 100 kg (220 lbs) out of its weight figure.

Alfa Romeo is going to build just 500 examples of the new Giulia GTA and GTAm combined.

Hyundai Enhancing 2022 Tucson With New N Line And Plug-in Hybrid Models

The 2022 U.S.-spec Tucson N Line and Plug-in Hybrid have finally been revealed. The N Line package offers sexy looks while the efficient plug-in hybrid model offers surprising performance.

The N Line tweaks the Tucson’s appearance to make it look a little more aggressive. Adorned with special bumpers, a new grille, black headlights bezels, black side mirrors, dual-tip exhausts, and a rear spoiler, the N Line Tucson certainly looks sportier.

The new 19-inch, N Line-exclusive wheels help round out the look and N Line badging ensures people know what they’re looking at. It can be had in Ash Black, White Pearl, Titan Gray, and Red Crimson, which is only available with this trim package.

Inside, you get a black headliner and red accents on the doors and seats. Speaking of the seats, they come in leather with fabric inserts with the N Line badge. The badge also finds its way onto the shifter and the leather-wrapped steering wheel. You also get a Bose audio system and the whole package comes with everything included in the SEL and Convenience packages. This is strictly an appearance package, though, so no performance modifications have been made.
