Skoda Kushaq Shows Youthful Interior In Official Design Sketches

Skoda has officially shown us then interior of the Kushaq, its new small crossover destined for India, by previewing it in two design sketches.

Despite being unrelated to the Kamiq sold in Europe, it has a similar dashboard panel, with a central line running across its entire width.

It also incorporates a freestanding infotainment screen up to 10 inches in diagonal in the middle, while the section under it was shaped to mimic the contour of the grille. Below the middle air vents, it hosts a panel of buttons, right above the HVAC controls, as well as two USB sockets.

A storage space, probably with a wireless charging pad for compatible smartphones on upper specs, is found in front of the gearshift lever, next to the 12-volt outlet, and further behind, we can see another storage space and a cup holder near the handbrake lever.

On the driver’s side, the Kushaq has a multi-function two-spoke steering wheel and digital instrument cluster, whereas the controls for the electric windows, side mirrors and door locks are where you’d expect them to be. All four doors feature big cubbies for extra storage and there are also two air vents mounted behind the front armrest to chill or heat the rear passenger compartment.

The bright orange accents applied to the dashboard, center console and door cards, and two-tone upholstery on the seats, with double orange stitching, complete the design.

Set to premiere on March 18, the Kushaq is built on the VW Group’s MQB-A0-IN platform, which was adapted by Skoda for the Indian market. Two gasoline power units, a 1.0- and a 1.5-liter TSI, coupled to a six-speed manual, six-speed automatic or seven-speed DSG transmission and front-wheel drive, will consist the engine lineup.

“This year, voting was more complicated due to the pandemic, which limited each juror’s ability to drive”, WWCOTY notes in the press release about the nine vehicles declared best of the best in each category. “Despite the challenges, jurors made an extra effort to get behind the wheel of these vehicles to evaluate them in time for voting.”

Their work isn’t done yet, as they will now have to select the ‘Best Car of the Year’. Thus, another round of voting will take place, and the result will be announced on March 8, which is International Women’s Day.
